HOVERING BETWEEN HEAVEN AND ANOTHERA Poem by Julie Dant
She looks out her side of the car window not really seeing the white blurs of Queen Anne’s lace or here and there the Blackeye’d Susans displaying their yellow petaled plumage and every one winking at her In acknowledgment of her secret. The here and now is dream-like. A foreign feeling, driving along this highway as she has countless times with him. Her disconnectedness is palpable. She is vacant, pre-occupied… her concentration is nil. The long-buried essence of her has been unleashed to hover somewhere between heaven and another. She has hyper-awareness of recent memories flooding, sharp and acute, playing themselves over and over in her starving mind. The simple act of a thumb gently wiping away a tear. The rough hands and fingers sweetly caressing her hair. The utter gentleness of new eyes gazing down and deeply into hers. Seeing absolute love in their depths. Seeing completely through to where her soul meets his. But today..this day..this empty day She looks out her side of the car window, not really seeing the white blurs of the Queen Anne’s Lace or here and there the Black Eye’d Susans displaying their yellow-petaled plumage and every one winking at her in acknowledgement of her secret. © 2009 Julie Dant |
