I Thought there was time.A Story by Katrina CrickettThis is the final instalment of my portfolio. It's also short but its in the form of a letter. No warnings at all. It features the same two characters again.Hey Emily! I’m sorry I wasn’t there when I should have been. I couldn’t face it. It was too final. You may not have known about global warming and it’s effects all those years ago, but when you said you wanted to change the world? You did it. You certainly changed mine. You know, I thought you were naïve at first. Thinking you could save the world and anyone could do anything. Joke’s on me I guess. The world is empty without you, my world is empty without you. All of the media and the press are using phrases like “Gone too Soon.” and “An Angel goes home.” and all of the cliché things they say when someone young…goes. I know I use them in my line of work. I just didn’t think I’d have to use them for you. They did this TV show for you, with all of the people you’d worked with, about your life growing up, the charities you supported right until the end. I was sitting with Mel and the kids watching them talk about you. They went back to the day of the shooting, too. They didn’t know everything though, how could they? I wasn’t interviewed. They’ll never know how you took that bullet in the shoulder for me when he barged into the library or how you held me when I was the one crying and having nightmares. I never said thank you for that. I guess I thought there was time. You saved me, Millie. You saved me all those years ago and I couldn’t save you just this once. I couldn’t save you and I knew what I was doing. I’m so sorry. All my love, Always. Chris. © 2011 Katrina CrickettAuthor's Note
