Lick the ToadA Poem by KWPDay 15 NaPoWriMo - a romp and a rump in the land of the toads.Lick the toad, lick the toad, lick the toad…’ A soft chanting filled my head. kicked into overload. The leaves on trees, were emerald green, sparking an iridescent comet. They fell from the sky, so high, so high. A passing gorilla stopped to vomit. I offered water. He said ‘why thanks, not often are humans good to me. They take advantage of the gift of earth, now excuse me I have to pee.’ I watched him leave, then in his place, a plane size butterfly flapped on by. ‘Caught in a thermal,’ he yelled on down, ‘otherwise, I’d come and say hi.’ the road had been paved, with thousands of dead snail shells. I walked and they broke, troubling me at the yoke. The sky was a swirl of little Indian girls, dancing in Bollywood style. Chai wallah sitting in sand, wobbling his head, tapping his hand, ‘come sit friend, talk, stay a while.’ His language Urdu, transformed into a Saddu, and choofed on a thin wooden pipe. ‘For now you must go, for you licked the toad, return to reality reunite.’ © 2017 KWPReviews
