Having fun in the August Postcard Poetry Festival

バランス

Like a ballerina spinning, spinning 

atop the pin prick of a needle,

we too must find our own balance. 

SIMPLE GUIDE TO ALWAYS FINDING 

YOUR WAY BACK TO ZEROPOINT

First, you must find a sturdy fishing rod. 

With enough wire to suit your adventurous

(or not so adventurous)

personality.

The mind,

always in constant motion,

this way that way, 

this way that. 

And you, you will be the hook.

It is not unusual for the mind to 

wish to hook itself on 

this thought, that thought.

Perch your fishing rod atop 

the pointy end of you/your needle.

(Be certain you jamm it in real solid like -

for if it comes loose you may be lost 

forever in a spin cycle of your own

travelling thoughts - argh!)

Cast yourself in any which direction you wish to flow.

It is only when we explore each and every 

destination of the mind,

will we come to understand -

what is ……

Once exhausted of the north, north, west, due east visit,

reel yourself back in.

Start over.

Go, go now, 

you have many trajectories 

to cover this life.

When you are done, 

there will be no need for more travel, 

for at Zeropoint, 

you are already there.

and sometimes the older we get, the wiser, maybe the more careful...we don't let too much line out there, because if we hook love again, we want it close and more a sure thing...it breaks the line a bit too often.

You have a wicked imagination. This is unlike anything I've read before. From the format to the way it's written. You seem to be able to convey exactly what you're thinking. Digging deep into the shunned crevices of our mind to bring something out that we never explored or never knew existed. This reminds me of something out of an Aldous Huxley book. Profound work and I couldn't just read it once. Blown away by it. Well done.

Ha thanks you :D - I am currently writing 30 poems for thirty days in August, something I do with a bunch of people every year. This year a friend suggested we do call and response poems. One will write a poem on a 'trait' the other will find a way to respond ... I will put her poem below for you. We will make a chapbook from it called 'Zen S**t and The Homeboy' I am more on the Zen S**t side and she is the resisting homeboy. Glad you liked it, my friend wrote her poem first (call) and the poem above was my response :D It's actually quite a refreshing way to get the creativity going that's for sure ... (oh and thanks so much for the read XX)

Here's her poem (she's terrifically creative!)

There's A New God In Town

Using tweezers and a magnifying glass,
he gingerly places another angel
on the head of a pin.

He has refined his technique
of pinching the wings together
in order to avoid damage
to the heavenly bodies.

So what if a halo is lost in the process?
It just breaks the focus
of clean lines anyway,
and clean lines are imperative
in the world of dance.

He is up to five angels now,
a new world record.

He presses play
and "Rich Man's Frug"
from "Sweet Charity"
saturates the paneled workshop.

The angels are flawless,
every movement,
every step,
a direct channel to Fosse's choreography,
all exquisitely performed
under the gigantic blue eye.

Tomorrow he will try for six angels,
dancing to Twyla's
"Push Comes To Shove."

Wow. That's pretty damn cool to be able to kick out that kind of writing. It sounds interesting and very challenging what you guys have going on.

You both have some mad skills. Definitely inspiring stuff. I'm happy I got to read your work. I'm sure it's just me but it has a psychedelic feel to it. Yours i mean. Hers is badass too. My pleasure friend:)
