My Truth is a Shelter

My Truth is a Shelter

A Poem by Kailei
"

i prefer my own truths- they keep me whole when their eyes try to divide me.

"
I have learned to keep my truths
like glass between me and the world-
clear enough to look through,
thick enough to not break.

You look at me and find
a body,
a vessel made for wanting.
You forget the mind it carries
has teeth and memory
and the quiet art of restraint.

My truths keep me safe
from the way you name things-
they stop me from seeing
how shallowly you swim.

You call it mystery.
I call it survival.

If I ever open the door,
it won't be for a gaze
that forgets I am more
than what glows in the dark.

I do not deserve love
that leaves half of me in shadow.
If it cannot hold both the thought
and the flesh that thinks it,
it is not love,
it is appetite.

So I stay behind my truths,
warm and whole,
until someone learns
to see all of me at once.

Much wisdom here. The naming, categorizing world does not comprehend our reality. Let it pass.
