His Hand is Slipping

His Hand is Slipping

A Poem by Kaitlyn Raiford

Locked away inside my head

Are thoughts of my best friend.

Maybe a part of me knows it's wrong,

But I don't want it to be.

I cannot imagine a world where he was not born

For he has been here far too long.

I can see his fingers slipping off this thread of life,

And I am doing all I can to help hold on.

Do I dare to let go?
