Moment of Realization

Moment of Realization

A Poem by Kaitlyn Raiford

With your smile comes a glimpse of hope,

and though I should I do not feel wrong.

Instead I tighten my hands on this rope,

and try my best to keep myself holding on.

I close my eyes and hold onto your smile...

Onto your face and your gentle, loving soul.

I know what we have will be good if we let.

I just have to keep myself from letting go.

I have always done what everyone expects,

and not what I truly want inside-

But it's time for me to stop doing that,

because it's worth more to show than to hide.

I should not care what others say,

or even what the others may do.

The only thing that should matter,

is that I am here and happy with you.

You are very quickly opening my eyes to that.

I was blind but am now beginning to see.

To you I am eternally grateful-

More than you could ever imagine me to be.

I am who I am and I will never change-

I just have to learn to accept my flaws.

 And I believe, slowly, day-by-day

That of that I will come to know.
