"A question un-answered "

I have tried to high light this social issue in pakistan about divorcees.

        “A question un-answered”

I still remember when I first saw you sitting alone
On the sea shore your long black hair blowing
Wildly could not keep you from writing on the
Wet sand, as I could not resist any longer I came

And sat next to you, not knowing what to say
I asked “what is your name?” 
you did not answer but pointed towards the sand
On which you  had written “BEWARE OF ME

 

I AM A DIVORCEE.”

I looked at your sad but beautiful face and asked
Again, “what is your name”?
you whispered which I heard loud and clear
“He left me, because he can’t marry a divorcee.”

 

 I felt un-comfortable at once and did not know
How too comfort you , just when you looked
At me with tears in your eyes asking me
“Why can’t you men marry a  divorcee?”

I kept quiet and got up from there as I

Was  yet another man  who had left some
One just like her………

This social issue is still a question un-answered in our society with no solution to it .

Love will always rise above social acceptance. I guess we are a little ignorant to traditional ideas over here, 9 out of 10 are divorced in North America. I chose to never get married ( live common law ) as to not have to go through that whole divorce scenario. Next time you see her tell her to go to America we love everyone equally. Well Done!

There are deep-seated religious and social feelings surrounding divorce. In the West divorce has almost become the norm - but 100 years ago there was a stigma attached to it. I guess that is the situation in Pakistan today. Only time and education will change this feeling - which I think is also associated with the view of some Muslims (and, of course, others) that when they marry, their bride must be a virgin or face rejection.

I wonder when will this plague of indifference come to an end. This disease will keep spreading until unless we don't put a stop to it. Poetically I didn't find any rhyme scheme, but the message was still clear.

I can relate the fact that you're a lawyer to the subject you penned your poem on.

I'll call this more of a runt, not a poem because the structure lacks the persona that could classify it as one. However it's very good you wrote on such a different line than other poets, I mean you don't get to see many tags on divorce around here. I like the concept. The last three lines of all three stanzas were great. Keep writing. :)
