Moonlight Serenade

Moonlight Serenade

A Poem by Katelyn Barker

Slip into the waves.
Sit and let yourself be bathed.
Calm and silent
cities are asleep.
And the winds
cannot repeat.
Chin held high,
watching clouds in the sky.
Moon is watching,
waiting,
for you to sleep.
No longer do you stand,
on the grains of seashore sand.
You lay.
Your mind is moving as if the world doesn’t care,
But the ones who care, are always there.
And now you walk,
to the place you hate,
to repeat
fate’s same mistakes
and let yourself
be pulled down deep,
and you let yourself sink into the sea.
Be free my child,
and see the world.
Or let yourself
be swept by waves
to the bottom of the sea,
and there you’ll find me.
Now you’ve given up,
you think life is rough,
but God made you tough,
so keep on fighting,
your battles of life.
Life isn’t over,
but it is full of strife.
Now you’ve quit
and you won’t get
to be at the top of the world.
Shhh, Quiet.
No noise is heard.
Shhh, quiet.
A noise I might have heard.
No noise,
in the silence deep,
No movement,
in death somber.
And rise to the sky
as a bird.
Life is yours.
