People You've Met

People You've Met

A Poem by Katie Marie

People You've Met

Genevere Cyprus
Dedicated to my teammates and friends,
the 2010 Girls' Cross Country Team.

You gave it your all,
You gave it your best,
You gave it your heart
In that final test.

You pushed through the mud,
You pushed through the pain,
You pushed on you bud
In that final game.

You took a last step,
You took a last blow,
But nothing can hide
The pride that you show.

For you fought a good fight,
You ran a good race,
And that day on the course,
Something meant more than place.

Not a ribbon or trophy,
A medal or plaque,
But the memories you've made
With the people you've met.

Author's Note

Katie Marie
Written by a teammate on my cross country team after we missed going to state by 6 points.
We just found out this week that the first place team from our sectional meet shouldn't have been in our division...they sent in their numbers wrong so they ended up in division 2 instead of division 1...we found out that we would have been running at state.
Heartbreaking news :( and there is nothing that can be done 5 months after the state meet.
