The River (1993)

The River (1993)

A Poem by Katseye

The River

If love isa river,

It's a river that flows past me,

Filled with my tears.

It flows away from me.

It leaves me alone on it's bank,

Starring as a reflection,

I can bear to see no longer.

For my love with the currents,

Down river has gone.

I hurt him,

Now he's gone.

The river's current,

Over me he chose.

I can't blame him.

As he stood on the bank,

Teetering on the edge;

He reached out his hand to me.

All I had to do was reach out,

Take his hand,

And pull him close.

I turned away instead.

Now memories of how he loved me,

Call me to the river's bank.

Remembering how we sat together,

Throwing rose petals in the river,

Each a wish or dream for us to share.

Now my love is with the rase petals.

Wanting so much to follow,

But afraid;

The river will take me past him:

On the bank with another.

With no one to pull me ashore,

I will drowned in the river.

Maybe the fate if the river,

Is far better than sitting here,

On the bank with my regret.

Will he be there?

Will I drowned?

Only time and-

The river will tell.
