Goodnight and Goodbye

 

I say goodnight now,

Knowing not long will come the time,

That I must say goodbye.

Each second that passes drives,

The knife deeper into my heart.

Ever deepening the wound,

Time brings so quickly.

The one thing love cannot concur,

Time.

And time changes everything.

You say you won't be gone long.

Though your love is strong,

With me so far away-

The warmth of someone near,

You must crave.

I understand,

Somehow I will endure the wait,

My love.

Until the time you tell me...

You have found someone new,

To hold you near.

Then I'll know my wait is over.

Then I'll say goodbye.
