What it feels to be a State Champion!

Mike yells at everyone to get their props

 

We line up from first to last

 

We go on the floor

 

You feel like you're going to puke

 

You're nevous

 

You can't stop shaking

 

The judges say "Props down"

 

Everyone rushes to put their stuff in the right place.

 

Batons go down

 

You're on the side

 

The music starts

 

You say the counts in your head

 

Then you pick up your sign

 

Count the counts again

 

"1...3...GO!"

 

You take your sign and rush on to the floor

 

You think to yourself

 

" Left, right, left, right, run to the back boundry"

 

" Move up"

 

" Left, right, left right"

 

" Down, up, down, up"

 

"Left, right, left right"

 

" Down, up, down, up"

 

You run to you'r third partner at the front of the floor

 

She takes your sign and it's you ad your partner dancing

 

Other groups of 2 dancing around you

 

You go on your knee at the end of the dance

 

You come up and scream " ROLL CALL!"

 

Run to the side and change quickly before your song comes on

 

Wait on your knee until it's your song

 

Get in ready position

 

You feel your heart race

 

You hear your Q

 

You turn around

 

Smile as hard and (fake) as you can

 

Over exaggerate your moves

 

You hear Debby in your head saying

 

" Kick your butt! Pull up high, POINT THOSE TOES!"

 

Smile and blow a kiss when you drop

 

Pick the baton up and start where the rest of your team is

 

Remember changes that were made 5 seconds before you went on

 

When you injure yourself smile and keep going

 

Go back to the side and find your partner

 

Grab a sign and run to the back when the music hits the

 

"AH AH AH" part of the song

 

Run behind the signs to your next partner

 

Run behind her

 

Stop

 

Your third partner throws her baton over the 7 foot sign

 

She catches and dances with one girl

 

Turn the sign around and give the girl behind it your baton

 

Dance with the other girl

 

Turn the sign back around on 4

 

Watch the girl with 3 batons juggle

 

Catch the one she hands you

 

Put your side down and strike the pose the rest of your group does

 

You're done

 

You take a bow

 

About face

 

And you walk off the stage

 

It's over

 

Everyone in the crowd cheers

 

The floor shakes

 

Your heart is still racing

 

You go outside and wait for your coach to tell you what they think

 

You go back and chill out in the stands for a few numbers

 

When core awards come you sit on the floor

 

When they call

 

" First place in the Lrg. Core with Props HAIRSPRAY!"

 

You run with the rest of your team to the floor and hug your coach

 

You cry

 

You're a State Champion

 

 

Author's Note

So! Today, 4/26/09, was my states " State Baton Competition". I'm proud to say that I am a State Champion. My whole team (not just my group) the whole 250+ girls, won 5 State Titles, 2 second place trophys, Core of the Year, and the all around Traveling Trophy that we've won 6 years in a row and that we get to keep because it has been retired. :D
