John Bull

John Bull jumbled jungle life,
Thinking life is made of trash.
Tumble rumble, now he's dashed,
Learning more to live aright.

i agree with Margie...one of the best...figurative pieces...the jungle i see here is the city...and having been raised in the Bronx, there is meaning on that level for me.
he was once reckless and going down the wrong street...but now he has been righted...and is on a much more serene and level headed block.

This is one of the best things you've written that I've read so far. This seems to be far advanced from your usual writing. In the past I notice that you are pretty literal (nothing wrong with that, I also write mostly straightforward) . . . that's why I love seeing you lay down a poem that does not have one literal word in it. I love how you use so few words to conjure up a whole scene & feeling for who & what this "John Bull" might be, tapping into the reader's experience of what kind of trash might be rumbling out of the jungle. I love the way you play with word sounds in a careless way, rather than going for any rhyming structure. Despite sounding like an offhand observation, I feel your poem has a deep meaning -- about appreciating breaths we take & blessings that surround us! (((HUGS)) fondly, Margie
