Forgotten Fort

A Poem by Kane Hagwood

A simple, yet stylistic, poem crafted into a metaphor about a place that's always made me curious.

Forgotten Fort

O Mysterious Stone Abode Of Old
What legends are forgotten

And which are told?

Moss has claimed the sides long ago

Be wary of the many dead ends

Or cryptic rabbit holes that fall below

Such a grand place to set up camp
But be sure to carry a lamp

Who knows what friends you may find
Treasures perhaps in your lens

What do you have in mind?

So enjoy this fort once supreme

Ignore what is rotten

And explore what feels like a dream

Very adventurous, loved the way you explored in writing about a simple forgotten fort.
Last Christmas, I visited my twin island and it had so many forts, very well kept and beautiful,
holds so much history, definitely reminded me of my journey ... Wonderfully written!!

Forgotten fort indeed......this reads like an adventure book by an English author called Enid Blyton (from the 70/80's)

You do a good job of creating a mini-movie here....kinda like being Indiana Jones...

Nice write my friend....:)

I like the style of this poem. “What legends are forgotten and which are told” such a great line to open up your peace with. I also really enjoyed the rhyming structure.

I love the sense of wonder and adventure in this piece! The imagery of the stone abode and hidden treasures draws the reader in, and the mix of caution and curiosity gives it a playful, mysterious tone. Very evocative and imaginative.

good flow and rhyming. intriguing to say the least. what fortresses and strongholds we erect in our minds at a given time for given purposes only to abandon them when they are no longer needed yet their overgrown remnants remain long afterward. probably why we all enjoy roaming through old, real ones. well said.
