The Ugly Duckling

The Ugly Duckling

A Poem by Kristan A. Mohammed
"

Pieced this together out of old work.

"

Ad astra per aspera,

The stars are mine.

Luceat lux vestra

Let your light shine.

Like the earth, blocks the sun from the emptiness,

Like the moon, hides the world from the dark,

I’ll confide, beside my open cowardice,

Like a dog, guarding you without a bark.

Vitanda est improba siren desidia

Underneath, manmade wings, I can see myself.

I may fall, like a star, to the neverworld.

Take me where, I can hear, the winds blow my name.

In the cold, I behold, my own soul.

Vitanda est improba siren desidia

This tyranny, I perceive, it devours me.

All that cries, without sorrow, is a fool.

Broken glass, dried up grass, and melancholy,

An ugly fish, travelling, without a school.

Vitanda est improba siren desidia

Vitanda est improba siren desidia.

Aut viam inveniam aut faciam.

Tempus nullus speravit.

Shun the wicked temptress, laziness.

Either find a way or make one.

Time waits for no one.

This just takes my breath away Kristan! What a beautiful and well written piece of poetic prosody my fellow wordsmith. I love these lines (Take me where, I can hear, the winds blow my name. In the cold, I behold, my own soul.) Bravo, bravo! ~Sharon

thanks a lot James.
I like the way you wrote it, with a different language mixed within the poem. I love it, what language is that, not the English one?
