The death of Hansel DreiningA Story by Kameron Boulton
When Robin and Hansel entered the derelict apartment building, something seemed off to Robin. He mentioned his feelings of mysterious dread to Hansel but the young man just scoffed and told Robin he didn't need to worry. As they continued deeper into the abandoned dwellings they began to converse. "ya know I've got a kid on the way?" half questioning half remarking. "No s**t?" said Robin. "Yep. A boy. His name is gonna be Jacob, like my dad." Hansel answered. "Congrats bud" Robin was interrupted by a loud thud coming from around the corner in front of the pair. As they crept around the corner with their guns and flashlights drawn, Hansel caught a glimpse of a tall, built, broad-shouldered man. He called out to the shadow proclaiming that he was a detective of the Carol City Police Department. But the man just kept running and the two followed. As they rounded another corner they were greeted by seven other men, Guards, with pistols and rifles. Robin and Hansel took cover behind a wooden crate that was lying across the hall. As they sat behind the box one of the men called out in a harsh and mean voice, "Hansel Dreining? Is that you? You know, I used to know your father back when you still had acne?" It was The Wolf. Hansel's eyes filled with tears as he came to this realization. Flashbacks of him and his father flooded Hansel's mind. A single tear fell to the rotting carpeted floor. Hansel stood up and fired of six rounds before being shot in the chest twice. As he fell back behind the crate Robin began to panic. "Holy s**t! Kid are you okay?! Jesus Christ!" Robin was yelling as he held Hansel. "Chill out." Hansel sat up "They give us bullet proof vests for a reason" He jokingly retorted. As Robin sighed in relief and Hansel chuckled, a bullet entered Hansel's right temple and exited the right. A crimson blanket of blood fell gently on the rotting carpeted floor. Most of the flesh and brain matter splattered on the wall, making gruesome graffiti artwork. Robin fell silent with Hansel's corpse. He had his young partners blood on his face and shirt. He took Hansel's gun out of his lifeless hand and loaded his own. He stood up and, in a fury of sorrow and rage, shot all seven men dead and took out one of The Wolfs kneecaps. He walked over to the disabled hitman and demanded to know where the hatter was. Naturally, The Wolf refused. Robin reacted to his defiance by sticking his ballpoint pen into the open, gaping wound. The Wolf yelled in pain and explained that the hatter was staying in an apartment above one of Rumpelstiltskin's night clubs. After Robin had acquired the information he needed, he looked The Wolf in the eyes, "This is from Hansel Dreining" Robin said as he fired one more shot from Hansel's gun into the criminals head.
