CONFESSIONS OF A COMIC BOOK THIEF

Did you ever
steal something?
Marvel comic books,
35 cents cover price.
Creaky metal rack
spinning before my
Twelve year old eyes.
Fantastic Four -
gave you more!
Four superheroes
instead of just one.
Invincible Ironman,
Hulk, Conan and
The Mighty Thor.
Each one battling
against evil forces,
hoods and crooks.
The covers always
brighter, and more
vivid than the inside.
The attraction of it
all made it easy for me
to buy one and slip
the other one inside.
That’s stealing.
Never got caught.
Only in my mind,
which reminds me
time and again of my
dishonesty and the
need to confess.
The Paper Store
is closed up and
gone for decades.
Can’t give them
the quarter and dime.
Only a confession
on this page.

I now wonder do you still have that comic book? I remember as a child taking a piece of candy out of a pin at a store and walking by an older gentlemen who I knew had seen me because the look in his was that of saddness when he looked at me. I put the candy back and to this day I have not forgotten the look in that man's eyes...total disappointment...never was I tempted to ever steal again. Great write and confession. Enjoy the read. This is honest and extremely intimate...very bittersweet and heartfelt...great imagery and subject matter...excellent!
