This is where the difference between Digital Literacy and Digital Dependency becomes clear.

A digitally literate person knows how to find reliable information, communicate properly online, and use digital tools to be productive. For example, a student who researches using trusted websites, creates presentations, and practices online safety is showing digital literacy. On the other hand, Digital Dependency happens when people rely too much on technology to the point that it controls their time, attention, and even decisions. This is seen when someone spends hours scrolling on social media instead of studying, or when one feels restless without a phone or gadget. Dependency makes technology a master, rather than a servant. Instead of helping us improve, it weakens our ability to think independently, manage time wisely, and live balanced lives.

The key difference, therefore, lies in control and purpose. Digital literacy gives us control over technology, while digital dependency allows technology to control us.
