How Could I Say Goodbye... When We Never Said Hello

How Could I Say Goodbye... When We Never Said Hello

A Poem by anne p. murray- LadeeAnne

Illustrations

How do I say goodbye to you
when we never really said hello?

And...

how is it possible to miss someone

I really hardly knew?

How can there be an end

   to something
which had no real beginning?
   I guess...

I was just drowning in a liquid Sea of Fools

We seemed to peer at the world

through the same pair of glasses

two hearts that felt so familiar

Yet...

at the same time so very different

  I'll say...

one thing for sure

   You taught your lesson well

I won't try love anymore

   So...

Thank you for the few laughs

    And...

the few good times  we had together

   And...

those that might have been

   But...

never came to pass,

  And...

never, ever were

  Yes...

sad as it is

  It's  hard to say goodbye

when we didn't really

  ever say hello

The time has come

when I no longer see your face

Well...

perhaps just a few times in my dreams

And...

   I refuse to weep anymore

for something that never really was

When someone says they love you

why did you always feel

   your selfish need to ignore?

So...

I won’t think of those times

you held me close,

when I felt intoxicated with love
knowing all the time it would end

And...

   you’d be gone forever
I won't remember the words
you spoke

   so carelessly
that meant so much to me,

  And...

seemed to mean so very little to you

filling me with hope of a new life

But...

   making me feel invisible instead

Which...

quite literally killed me in the end

My love was always wrong for you,

    fool that I was

believing in true happiness,

    Thinking...

my fairy tale had come true,

   That my true love

had come to stay,
when he only came to say goodbye

And...

   he never even meant

to truly say hello

The lingering effect of this tragic end...in the lines as I read this one...you convey the beginning nonchalantly...and then this just goes all out war in lines at the end of it...and give the reader the whole mess of things....

I'm not an extraordinary woman, simply put... I'm just a normal, ordinary one. In my private life I am gingerly cautious with the people I meet, but fearless in the words I write. Not an extrove.. more..
