Our Land, Our Future Our Past

Our Land, Our Future Our Past

A Poem by anne p. murray- LadeeAnne

The land is our present, our future...our past

The waters that flow in the rivers and seas

It feeds us, our animals and the fish

It is our nourishment

How can you buy or sell the sky,

The warmth of the land?

We do not own the freshness of the air

And the sparkle of the water,

Every part of this earth is sacred

Every shining pine needle,

Every sandy shore,

Every mist in the dark woods,

Every humming insect is holy

The sap which courses through the trees

Our dead never forget this beautiful earth

For it is our mother, our father

We are part of the earth and it is part of us

The perfumed flowers are our sisters

The deer, the horse, the great eagle,

These are our brothers

The rocky crests,

The juices in the meadows

The body heat of the pony

They all belong to the same family

The family of man

We are Earth, the wind and sky

The rivers are our nourishment,

They quench our thirst, feed our lands

The rains nourish our waters

They kiss us with its silver liquid drops

We must honor all things of nature

For that is where it all began

That is where it shall end

Oh so true... just like many things done over generations effects us now what we do today will effect tomorrow and our children... but now we are wiser, or should be. Mother nature is a miracle but she still is vulnerable.
