The Torch Toll

The Torch Toll

A Poem by Tricia Pattinson

The Torch Toll
by Tricia Pattinson

Handed down through space and time
From highlands to lowlands
To continents found

Bloodlines stitch together

The torch burns bright
Is red haired hot
Sparks against the dark

Flumes wane not, unsmothered, by life

The DNA to strive
To stand and fight
Goliaths and theives of light

Under estimated toll to the flaming soul

Your flame may disturb
May bring challengers and saboteurs
Your heat may draw the insecure

But your torch is for that purpose
