The Cover Stories We Love And Cherish
by Tricia Pattinson

Without the cover stories I'm cold
There's no blanket to hold

I will find a way to explain
To describe the quilts we actively weave

The decorating we unconsciously do
Tricking ourselves into comfortable cages and nests

Stacked high in a corner or closet our memories
Each story we tell ourselves - we wear eventually

I wonder how many of these are wrapped about me
How many stacked rolls of self made carpeting do I have?

Telling ourselves to choose better today from the closet
Choose wisely a weave everyone recognizes

I'm not certain I want a safety blanket any longer
Be a part of a very old trend or in fashion

Maybe its time to wear discarded trash bags
Poked full of holes with a RIP logo

Maybe I'll go for no closet and no corners
Shockingly survive as a nudist - honest!

Maybe an exhibit of near and dear blankets
"Believing my memories keep me warm," the first I'd toss
