Guilt

Guilt

A Poem by Whiskurz

No one seems to understand
This voice will never fade
He speaks to me when I'm awake
Of all the mistakes I've made

He fills my mind with hopelessness
And reminds me of my past
He tells me of all the lives I've touched
And the forgiveness I have passed

He walks with me both day and night
He will not let me rest
He says "Life is a place to learn and grow"
But I have failed the test

My mind is now his play thing
A place, I alone have built
I finally know my demon's name
I just call him guilt

The simplicity of language and rhyme scheme in this piece are a fitting way to describe a feeling that is universal, I think, in all sentient humans. I can't help but feel that extending this by maybe a verse or two would make it a little bit more interesting, but the main idea is well captured.
