Second Chances

Second Chances

A Poem by Whiskurz

He traded His throne in Heaven above
For a lowly carpenter's chair
He traded His beautiful Crown of Jewels
For a crown of thorns to wear

He laid down His robe of purest white
To wear the scarlet shame
He gave to them the breath of life
They used it to mock His name

He who made the waters and seas
Said to them "I thirst"
He offered them the best He had
They offered Him their worst

Though made in His own image
And supposedly civilized
They beat Him then they plucked His beard
Till He couldn't be recognized

The maker of the dogwood tree
Would die among its branches
And still He loved the world enough
To offer us second chances

A touching poem. I read another's poem after long and realized how words can convey through the language of one's soul.

I like the interweaving of images between creation and divinity, especially:
"He who made the waters and seas
Said to them "I thirst"
He offered them the best He had
They offered Him their worst"
Herein lies how creation, us the creatures, continue to allow the thirst to exist, even after all of creation has been infused with the divine presence and example. We have as many second chances as it takes. Nice write.

This was such a beautiful and poetic summary of Jesus' life. Really, really well done
