Snowflakes

Snowflakes

A Poem by Whiskurz

I wonder if the snowflakes know
As they tumble from the sky
They'll live until the sun comes out
Before they melt and die

Could that be why they're silent
For they never make a sound
They try their best to take their time
Before they touch the ground

They come together like family
For no two are quite the same
Some may introduce themselves
If snowflakes have a name

Some maybe last a day or two
Before they start to melt
But snowflakes never once complain
They just play the hand they're dealt

I guess they're a lot like people
As they watch each other die
They gather around when their time comes
And tell each other goodbye

Oh so sad. Goodbye can be such a laden word. Your rhythm and rhyme are both spot on, and draw you through the poem at a measured pace. Sad, but whimsical, "if snowflakes have a name".

A community of snowflakes, wonderful. Thank you.

Whiskurz, I just read the whole first page of your blog and was almighty impressed with each and everyone of them. No particular favorite, since they're all so good.( and I don't comment or compliment often or lightly) I think I got some inspiration from a few of yours, so hopefully you've helped as well as entertained me. Great writings Whiskurz and hopefully soon I can call you respectfully by your actual name

I really like this! It is very interesting how you take the topic of snowflakes and create a poem about life and death. The last stanza leaves me with a feeling of sadness, and yet there is a gentle quality to it all. I bumbling here to say what I am feeling so....enough.

Wonderful! Line 11 took me back to when I lived in New Hampshire...some odd years ago. Snowflakes do indeed introduce themselves. Sometimes they miscalculate though...and hit you right in the eye.
