FairytaleA Poem by Alexa L. Draven
Children think the world is made of colors and butterflies,
why are they tricked into believing these imaginary lies? You say you're just keeping them safe from all the cruelty, but it doesn't make it better to promise them false beauty. Because when they get older, the world will seem colder. The world is not composed of kings, queens, castles, and knights, bitterly, that's what they'll realize when the darkness fades the light. When they meet the world face to face, it will seem like a much more horrid place. They believe the world is a fairytale because you told them it is, but what will happen when they learn the world is far from bliss? When their perfect little world crumbles to the ground, all sense of hope in their hearts will no longer be found. When their expectations of a wonderful place spirals down, watch their innocent smiles turn into disappointed frowns. The fantasies you tell them are from nothing more but storybooks, in time, they will be able to find the lies with one look. You try to shield them from the sad truth, but you forget, they'll only be safe as a youth. Reality can only be hidden for so long, as they grow, they'll notice all that's wrong. They'll find life full of loneliness and betrayal, because they'll figure out the world is not a fairytale.
