Price of BeautyA Poem by Alexa L. DravenAnother lost poem from my teenage archives.
She looks at the mirror in disgust,
Her self-esteem is now only dust. She purges her deepest, most haunting feelings, Hurting herself for so long, she can't begin healing. Lost in this agonizing obsession, To release her horrid repressions. She's stubbornly unaware of her loss of weight, She tries so hard to rid herself of what she hates. Every day is a fatal battle for her, To defeat the liar in the mirror. She needs to see the truth and open her eyes, Instead of the ruthless, self-proclaiming lies. Trying so hard to be perfect in every way, The weight of her world is crashing down every day. She locks herself in the bathroom after each meal, To relieve herself of the harsh emotions she feels. She needs to stop it before it's too late, Before she's eye to eye with her fate. But it's so addicting when are sees her bones, It's so easy to indulge when no one is home. She knows going on like this, she won't live, But she'll do anything just to feel attractive. She knows in the ground is where she'll soon be, But she's willing to pay the price of beauty. © 2025 Alexa L. Draven |
