Night Train Memories

Night Train Memories

A Poem by Leigh
"

In the night I can hear the train and it brings all the memories flooding back

"

Are the grasses still bright and golden as we left them?

Or have they grown dark and sullen in our neglect?

And as the night train rushes by singing its song,

Does it know those were the fields where we used to play?

Rattling over bridges and passed ears of corn

Cutting through a blanket of quietness

In that unique summer that was

That had a light never to be repeated

Beautiful poem, beautiful title. It makes me think and reflect. I had a very happy childhood and I miss the simpler things. The sound of the train I hear as I fall asleep is a mournful sound and always gives me chills. It's more of an "ending" sound. But this poem is richly lovely in its simplicity and the words you chose. Well penned, friend. :)

A lovely, plaintive piece. It reminds me of a train ride I took in East Germany. Nice work.
