How Beautiful is the Night?A Poem by LeighHow beautiful
is the Night? And how
little it supposes At dusk its
flowers come out In beds of
quiet and colourless roses The moon
goddess rises high and An army
of stars surround her While
the Earth is at bed With a violet
blanket around her How
giving is the night? And how
rich it is in bounty Giving
lovers a chance to meet From
city hall to rural county To
secret gardens they go Their
eyes black and rounded Gently kissing
and holding hands To be
left alone, unhounded How peaceful
is the night? With its
unmapped dark enclosure Leaving
the eyes to roam around With no
fear of overexposure ‘Tender
is the night’ Say
Keats and Fitzgerald But too soon
the morning comes With its
new light to herald © 2022 LeighFeatured Review
