Elke Sanders Likes PurpleA Chapter by Lemon-GirlIsabella smiles at me in every class (even though we only have two classes together) and I smile back. She keeps complimenting my art and she laughs at my jokes. Our next interaction was in English. I was sitting and fiddling with my favorite purple pen (as one does) and Isabella sat across from me. Nothing new. I kept stealing glances at her and at one point my eyes locked with hers. We made eye contact. F**K. Her lips quirked into a smile and I turned away. Oh my god I was blushing again. Elke Sanders doesn’t blush! I can’t have my fragile reputation ruined already. The way I see it, the first few weeks of school are for you to build up a quick profile for yourself, what you want the main aspects of your personality to be. At my old school, I was Elke. The shy, quiet, and gentle girl, afraid of speaking her mind. But here? Cherry Bricks was my chance to build the reputation I never had. Here, I was Elke Sanders, the loud, incredibly queer, hilarious, and amazing artist of a girl. Of course, I wasn’t rude to the grown ups! I have specific ways of talking with specific people. I can plaster on a fake smile and look like a real-life barbie, full of polite manners and pretty gestures around adults. I tend to wear a mad-man’s smile and cackle as loud as I can when I laugh around my peers. With little kids I grin gently and I'm full of soft smiles and sweet mushy words. Guess which one I hate the most. My purple pen clattered against the ground in the middle of the lecture and rolled across the floor. D****t! I was completely off my game today… and ohh no. It’s rolling towards, guess who? She has pretty black and red hair, a gorgeous smile, and a light and airy laugh. Its Izzy. She picked it up and handed it to me, smiling. “Purple is my favorite color” she grinned. I just mumbled a quick “Mine too” before scribbling down some notes.
