Elke Sanders hates homeA Chapter by Lemon-GirlLet’s get one thing clear: If my life was a movie it would be the most boring s**t yet. All they see is me, laying on my bed, staring at the ceiling, daydreaming. I have no access to Tumblr, or Reddit, f**k, even youtube! Any sort of platform where I can talk to people like myself is banned in my household. Of course, I'm the only one this ban applies to. The only apps my phone has are: Spotify Messages And a stupid puzzle game How exciting Now, if you’re thinking “Well Elke, why don't you go outside!” Think again bozo. It’s as hot as the devil’s a*s crack here and I don’t want to burn up Looney-toons style the moment I step outside. If you're thinking “Well why don't you talk to your friends?” Hah! Gee I wish but I have ONE singular friend and she doesn’t even message me much Oh, right. Kit. I promised her I would bring her Hot Fries for lunch tomorrow. I groan and heave myself off my bed before pulling out a small ziploc baggie from the craft supplies tucked in the corner of my room. Kit’s mom is a health-nut so she never gets any sugary, salty, or spicy snacks. We have an unspoken deal of: I bring Kit snacks, Kit sends me youtube tiktok compilations. It’s a stupid deal but we both understand what it's like to be restricted from something you want so it works. As I trudge down to the kitchen I snap my phone off the charger and take my headphones out of the case. If I was going to be miserable, at least I could be miserable with music. I select my favorite song before rummaging like raccoon through the pantry: “All Dolled Up” by The Orion Experience I pull out the half-eaten bag of Hot Fries and empty them into the baggie I had brought. Kit LOVED Hot Fries to a concerning degree but who was I to deny her the snack? I stuff the bag into the smallest, most hidden pocket in my backpack, just in case my parents decide that I haven't been bringing home enough school-work and decide to dig through it. Privacy is a foreign thing in this house-hold. Yet again, that rule only applies to me though. I hum along to the music blasting in my ears as I stroll back to my room with my school computer in hand. “Elke?” I freeze and glance to the side before breathing a sigh of relief. It was just my brother, Finn. “Where ya going?” he asked, walking up to me and ruffling my hair “My room.” I grumbled “Where big brothers like yourself can’t bug me” Finn made a pouty face “Can’t a brother just want to love his little sis?” he whined “Can’t a brother wait until LATER to love his little sis?” I hissed in reply Finn let out a gasp, held a hand over his chest and draped himself dramatically over the couch “Okay, okay, drama king.” I rolled my eyes and paused my music “You’re the best brother ever” “I’m your ONLY brother” he teased, before getting up. “Anywho, what do you have your computer for?” “My writing. But if Mom and Dad ask, just say homework, ‘kay?” Finn nodded, he knew as well as I did that if my parents found out about my writing, let alone I was PUBLISHING it, I was toast. “Well, good luck! I read it on Tumblr. It’s really good so far!” he grinned before retreating to how own room down the hall. I unpaused my music and opened the door to my room. © 2025 Lemon-GirlAuthor's Note
