Almost LoveA Poem by Lena
We met in the pause between seasons and sound,
Not quite a beginning, not meant to be found. Your hand brushed mine like a half-drawn breath, A promise unfinished, a silence that wept. Our eyes kind of locked in, Then I felt the warmth, Our hand stayed entwined, but you seemed so cold, Suddenly we both let it go, But I tried to find you while you brushed it off. I watched you drift like smoke through a dream, Close enough to touch, but never quite seen. You laughed like a stranger I almost once knew, And I smiled like someone who never loved you. I might just hide it, I might pretend, But deep down we both know, we’re much more than friends, We both can feel it, but you won’t admit, That’s why we’re strangers when anyone’s near. So I trace the outlines of what we won’t say, Like footprints erased at the edge of the bay. If timing’s a villain, then silence’s a thief- It stole all our chances, and left only grief. Funny how I’m still hoping, Thinking you’re not really gone, But in the confusion, admiration- You’ll live forever in my words. © 2025 LenaFeatured Review
