Widower

Widower

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

a poem

"
Knowing there are
many words for night;
nightwatch,nightshade,nightfall

but none of the space
of a halved bed,an envelope starched,
flat with white,unslept in

and hands devoid of
a trace of perfume or rest warmth,
a slight breath,a gentle curve.

Let him cherish the lost presence

of a drowned moon
of darkness long
of standing time.

I like how you focused on visual impressions rather than emotional ones to express loneliness...it adds a unique touch to this poem.

You expressed this in a way that is unusual; yet the last four lines carries the weight of its content. Well done, Sir.

A very impressive poem on a very sad subject.
Loneliness is very painful. How can the space of someone now gone ever be filled?

Sad and yet wonderful. Emapthic and superbly written.

Yes, and for the widow it is pretty much the same. I still turn to him when I hear a strange noise in the night, but he is not there. We all miss what is no longer there. Valentine

Such a deeply sad piece here Leslie. One I relate to although my bed is empty every night for a different reason. You capture the image of the bed devoid of presence and undisturbed. At times there is solace in it though; no one to steal the quilt or snore lol!
