Seagulls Over Antrim

Seagulls Over Antrim

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

In Memoriam Liam Clarke

"
The strandcafe
               was lined
               with Hitchcock seagulls
as you looked over
               your glasses
               with concern
               and said
that I did not understand Hegel.
A time ago, of rage and joy and rain.

"that I did not understand Hegel." - this line made me reflect: death causes us to focus on the now and then of the dreary situation, and think (i.e., philosophize) of nothing else

A very visual poem. I can just about see what is happening. Hitchcock everyone understands on some dark level, but Hegel, it might take a while.

This reads wonderful like a memory. And the reference to Hitchcock and the birds, who doesn't feel a chill when they think of that. A great poem! A powerful poem!

Hegal vs. Hitchcock....this piece says so much in its few words...love the reference to The Birds...one of my favorites...i think of it every time i see a large flock of birds settled in one place...

your writing always sets me to thinking in new places.
