No Smiling Faces

No Smiling Faces

A Poem by LeslieNoel

No Smiling Faces

My voice echoes off the walls

of these empty spaces "

nothing and no one for miles,

no smiling faces.

Trying to get through this thing alone,

even though I am prone

to diving off the deep end,

which tends to send me off alone

to fend for myself.

And I try to do this

with little to no help.

How can a person survive

with the sharks in their head?

Instead, I must rise

through the dread.
