Midnight Heron

Midnight Heron

A Poem by LeslieNoel

Midnight Heron

The heron stands upon the bar,

sandy-clawed feet leaving prints on watery earth.

Moonlit skies overhead

are shrouded by wispy clouds.

A slight breeze ruffles his feathers "

regal,

a sure presence stands tall,

noble in his movements.

He steps into the night-shade water,

shimmering with ripples

cast by the moon’s eerie glow.

The river’s steady onward flow

shrouds the heron’s plight tonight

as he searches for his next meal

before alighting into flight.
