The Onset of Winter

The Onset of Winter

A Poem by LeslieNoel

The Onset of Winter

Fall died-

and I didn’t even notice.

When I looked up,

the trees were bare.

All I could do was stare

at the spindly twigs,

once full of life,

once clothed

in lush green,

then red,

then orange.

Now,

between the seasons,

in the hollow

of my heart,

I feel it-

the start of winter.

And though it hurts

to say goodbye,

the oncoming polar sigh

brings its own beauty.

Hues of blue and off-white,

frosted windowpanes,

branches drooping

with crystalline ice-

a wondrous sight,

quietly grand,

full of secrets and splendor,

filling chilly days

and frozen nights.
