Christmas Nightmare

Christmas Nightmare

A Poem by LeslieNoel

Christmas Nightmare

Stress, half-baked into a Christmas pie.

Tears stream down my cheeks from a Yuletide cry.

The inner sigh I’ve been trying to collect

has been building for weeks-

counted down like clockwork.

So many responsibilities,

so many festivities.

And I have to pick-

carefully.

The ones that won’t push me

over the edge.

Off the proverbial holiday ledge.

Christmas lights strung on every house.

Mine?

It’s bare.

I feel like a louse.

Too much money to spend on these gifts.

And the family rifts?

They show up

every season

like clockwork.

Tell me-

is there even a reason

for the holiday hubbub?

I’m never impressed

by humanity’s displays

of rage and greed.

This?

This is something

I do not need.

It perfectly captures the hidden overwhelm behind the festive facade. The line "off the proverbial holiday ledge" hits hard relatable and powerful. A quiet reminder that not everyone feels joy at Christmas, and that’s okay.
