Medusa Is My Mother

Medusa Is My Mother

A Poem by Askew

Medusa is my mother
As she is mother to all of us
Medusa was hurt by Poseidon
As I was hurt by men twice my age
Medusa was found and comforted by Athena
In a way I never was by anyone
And Athena made her strong and fearsome
As I was forced to make myself

Medusa was abused by a god for her beauty
And in retaliation took the offer to become a monster

Medusa is my mother
For I can always find solace in her stony gaze and warm embrace
Medusa is my mother
For I know she understands why I chose to become hard and cold

Possibly all true. Still, I advise against trying to comb her hair.
