A Father and a Daughter

A Father and a Daughter

A Poem by Askew

He loves me

He holds me as a child when I am hurt

He accepts me as his own though we don’t share blood

He hates me

He shuns me as an adult when I make mistakes

He only tolerates me because he loves my mother

I love him

I crave his affection and approval

I run to him for help when I am clueless

I hate him

I cannot stand to live under the same roof as him

I will leave and sever all contact to him when I am able

What a confusing love-hate relationship. I understand it, but I'm sorry for the two of you.

Take care - Dave
