As I Sit by the GravesideA Poem by ShiikaWrote this around 6th grade. Kinda wish I could still write like this; I think my old poems are really good compared to my newer ones. Anyway, this poem came after learning about the early patriots. We respect the patriots, as they respected us. They gave us their lives, we gave them our trust. As I walk through this graveyard, I can imagine the past And recognize the importance of those here that breathed their last. Today, in this country, we take things for granted; We seem to forget about the seeds our forefathers planted. As I continue to look, I see men and women Who fought so that this country could have a beginning Not under British rule, or any other country. They fought so that we people could be free. One nation, under God, with liberty and pride… These things I now see as I sit by the graveside. © 2013 ShiikaAuthor's Note
