My Grounding ForceA Story by L. N. BabcockYour slim arms circle tightly around my waist and pull me flush against you. My head fits perfectly beneath your chin and I sigh happily as I inhale your scent; a pleasing mixture of cigarette smoke and cologne. The rain is coming down in powerful torrents but we’re safe and dry under the roof of the porch and we steal the warmth from each other. You run your long fingers through my hair and as the lightning flashes I hide my face in your neck. A gently laugh escapes from your lips at my unnecessary fear because we both know that all is well. It had only been two weeks since we had last seen each other but those two weeks had felt like two years. Two weeks was a long time and I had missed you. Looking down at me you timidly press your lips against mine, unsure of how I’ll react. My breath catches in my throat and I kiss you back hard as your hands creep to my neck and hold me firmly in place. Finally we break apart and just continue to cling to each other. I am perfectly content. For once in my life I am not wishing to be elsewhere; for once in my life I am not wishing to be with someone else. At last I am perfectly happy where I’m at and with whom. I had finally found my grounding force in you. © 2012 L. N. Babcock |
