done exploring

i was adventurous
and i went sailing on the sea
it was empty bleak and dark
i made my toward home
through the haze i could see
the lighthouse of home
it told me
i no longer need to roam

The sea and the lighthouse are metaphorical for the journey of life. In youth we itch to go roaming to find out what life is all about. Eventually we discover we did not have to leave, for it was there all the while.

This afternoon I started reading Jack London book "cruise of the snark" -- about his voyage in a smallish sailing vessel, intending to live on the open seas for 7 years, but only made it one due to severe illness. Book starts out in deep delusion about how much fun this is going to be. By Chp 2 (named "the inconceivable and monstrous"), he's already hitting some walls. I love how your poem symbolizes how typical it is for humans to get all giddy about some plan that's ridiculous & once embarked, we can't wait until it's over. The nice thing about being old & disabled, I don't have to do this dance anymore *wink! wink!* Also love how much you convey in such a short poem! (((HUGS)))

I am terse....the word terse has a bad connotation.... it simply means straight to the point...a bunch of flowery words just clutters things up...have a sweet day

I'm often terse . . . even more so in the flesh. Decades of tech writing causes me to eliminate the words most people skip over anyway, to read or understand.

Home sweet home. When you find home, that is where the heart is. The explorer has done exploring. You found your lighthouse when you were sailing in dark waters. That's a result I would say Jeff.
