How does it feel?

You always felt alone

misunderstood by others

separate from the rest 

going against the grain

never wanted fame

could never stand the looks

never anyone to trust.

always on your own

smiling on the outside

escaping in your mind

a safe place no-one could find

even if you shared with them the way

they wouldn't understand. 

You always felt alone

understood by no-one

invisible to everyone

watching the world go around

around you

without you.

So tell me

how does it feel now,

to be alone in my heart?

There's a special place for you

never to be taken by anyone else

even when we're apart

there's no space for those others

only for you

Trying to gain the trust of one who has always been broken in one way or another is so hard.
being alone with the speaker, inside the speaker's heart....How does it feel to be loved?
by that one person who understands.

There is so much going on beneath the surface of what your words are saying & I love how you put a strong contrasting undercurrent in many of your poems. Despite this seeming to be a "nice" poem, possibly even a "love" poem, it feel some hostility. It's like, put up or shut up. Now you're loved, so are you going to shut up about not being heard, etc? I don't believe this narrator WANTS her subject to stop his moaning, I think they're in it together. It's a game they play for attention. But of course, it could be anything. Nicely open-ended in that way (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
