Flight of the ButterfliesA Poem by DesireeI wrote this poem as a metaphor for how I've learned to live with my adult "wings", and how there is another "butterfly" out there who is going through the same thing and will complete me. Sorry if that sounds corny. In two cocoons we wait Ready to fly away
Before it is too late
So from our cocoons we break
Our wings are dawdling and weak
Yet we push them until they tear
Which makes us feel sad and meek
but with each tear we become more aware
We grow stronger through our feeble state
Yet we mustn’t push ourselves too far
Or we may lose our wings at this rate
And fall just as we fear we are
We try to fly alone and grow stronger
But alone we fall as prey to the world
Together we fly as we support each other
When your wing breaks mine will support us and soar
As we make our way with our new wings
And the tears are repaired along the way
We will escape old fears and soar into new beginnings
And our wings will get stronger every day
In two cocoons we waited side by side
Ready to struggle in solitary lives
But together through love, the odds we defied
And side by side we will forever fly
