A poem that I wrote ages ago, that was lost in the shuffle of Writer's Cafeness

What if...
I loved you
Would you know
Could you feel it from my touch
See it in my eyes
Sense it with your soul

What if...
I told you
Would you embrace me in your arms
Put your lips to mine
And never let me go
Or

Would you break my already fragile heart

What if...
I changed my mind
Would you let me flutter by
Slipping from you, like a dream
A fragment of a memory
Would you beg me not to leave

What if...
I never told you
Would you wait for eternity
Those three little words, to esape my lips
Feel it from my heart, but never be allowed to hear
Could you do that for me
Would you be so brave

What if...
You said it first
Do you think it would scare me away
Send me running to the shadows
Leave you standing alone on a hill of despair
With the one thing you wanted, further from you, rather than near

What if...
Your fears were the same as mine
Does that mean we are dancing a fools dance
And it is only a matter of time
Before caution is thrown to the winds
Or we both give up on what is already there
