Not Again

Not Again

A Poem by Ally Baker

I watch him
As he watches me

From across

The empty field

A full moon

Sits high above

Illuminating

His pale skin

It seems so surreal

But still

I believe it to be true

He takes a step

Towards me

I try

To do the same

But with each step

Taken by myself

I move backwards

The length of 5 paces

He is so far away now

Within a blink

The grassy field

Turns to deep waters

I watch him grab

At water around him

Trying to find his way

To the surface

To me

Sweaty

Wide eyed

Panicked

I awake

Tears flow

Immediately

'Not again!'

I sob into my hands
