My GodA Poem by Luther NyirendaInitially I created this poem to reflect the struggles I've gone through during my “faith journey”, but now it’s more of an invitation for you to question what you believe in and if that’s truly whatMy God I have shackled myself to the eyes of others letting their opinions change who I was Their bindings have held down my arms, in an attempt to reach for you My God I've cried for your response, anxious to hear the words that have been forgotten The only call back I've gotten was the one with silence My God The travel from faith to lonely is one equivalent to street to sidewalk.. And I have crossed that path many times before My God Has my trust in you been glorified to another, has it gone to dwindle in the embodiment of self, left to rely on my own. My God I have mended this body, painting over your work and called it everything but perfect Oh how I could never let that word brush off my lips how my tongue grabbed for it's essence and deprived me from it's fulfillment My God... © 2014 Luther Nyirenda |
