A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by chekirov

i’ve waved adieu to the past

more times than I wish to admit

and long since said goodbye to late evenings

ending in steamy mornings

still, i hold your hand

between the lines of my poetry

taking you with me on many an adventure

i lean over the edge of reality

reaching for you

knowing you will dazzle me

like the sun sweeping across the morning sky

sate me

like the viennese table at a posh wedding

surprise me

like a visit from a long lost friend

you hold me even when you are not here

and that’s why i lie a little to myself

lost in the vastness of possibility

refusing to admit failure

every time i write

about you

a what could have been poem - about someone the subject writes with care, like walking on eggshells, careful not to disturb the memory - what and how it perceives the relationship with the beloved - a sad kind of comfort - like waves washing over one's feet on sand and stones - the absence of the beloved is haunting and says it all, but it leaves the lover hanging, because the lover can't let her feelings go for the beloved - thank you, lydia, for sharing this with us :)

Lydi. I feel this very deeply. When someone touches your very core, how do you stop feeling that? I love deep emotion in your words. This is so touching :)

Like many others, i am deeply touched by these lines.
We are never really set free from memories, are we?
Every time i read your poems, i embrace your emotions
and memories and they become mine too. and then i feel them
even stronger with the wonderful images you put forth.
Beautiful my friend!.

Sanober, you are a sweetheart! Thank you for truly reading my words and for feeling them. Lydi**

A lovely poem Lydia, which shows that waving goodbye to the past also embraces in the future.

'still, i hold your hand
between the lines of my poetry.'

I rarely pick out particular bits of a poem, preferring instead to absorb the whole, but they are two quite exquisite lines.

Beccy.

knowing you will dazzle me....oh Lydi - stunning imagery my friend. The images you have created are breathtaking.
Time passes by and people leave us...but the love stays in a very special place in one's heart. Thank you for sharing that special place in this gorgeous poem.

It's nice to have that place that you can go for a period of comfort, hear what only you can hear, feel what only you can feel. Alone together, wherever you may be physically, you are somewhere else, much more engaging

like Dante's Beatrice, Keats' Fanny, Yeats' Maude and Eliot's Vivienne, your muse has deeply inspired your work and i can sense that he will continue to do so for as long as you are able to hold a pen...i really love the similes in this work and the acknowledgement that some love never really leaves us...this is beautiful poetry, Lydi and I love the art work, too! - Thomas

My pleasure!! :)
sometimes we just can't let go of that certain someone from the past...so our poetry keeps us connected to him or her---and we carry that person in our hearts and let our hearts bleed for him or her with the ink of remembrance....again your description, imagery...breathtaking.
